Tarrango is an Australian grape, created by CSIRO scientists in 1965 by crossing the Portuguese red grape "Touriga" with the white grape "Sultana". It was developed specifically to produce a fresh red wine, ideal for drinking in the summer in many countries with hot summers. Named after the small township of Tarrango in the "Mallee" district of northwest Victoria. The vines evolve in abundance and ripen late which maintains a certain freshness and acidity in the wine.
